An enriching Visit From Our Friends
A delegation of students and teachers from Qalilya
visited Gainesville in April 2014 and strengthened our friendship.

Oak Hall School welcomes our honored guests with a school tour full of stimulating conversations, presentations and several organized activities. An employee of the school, Jason Stahl, along with Oak Hall’s music students even put together a Taiko Drum performance and lesson! Two of the visiting girls are deaf, but they could feel the rhythm of the music and joined in without hesitation.
We also created a public “Peace Mural” together on our city of Gainesville’s famous 34th street wall.
We celebrated together at a community wide “Blues Jam” where many of our cities best musicians came out to play.
A 12 part, improvisational painting was also created by Robert Ponzio to help capture the moment. (Each of the delegates took a piece home).
We brought our friends to the beach in St. Augustine Beach, Florida. Most of the kids from Qalqilya have never seen the beach before, despite living only about 10 miles from the shore.
We could not let our visitors miss Disney World! They spent a wonderful day together exploring the Magic Kingdom.
Some Ultimate Frisbee with our friends also proved to be a lot of fun! Spending this week with our friends brought us all closer together and strengthened our relationship.
